how do I go about putting live rock in my tank without crushing any of my fish when they burrow under the rock. is there anything that I can put under the rock so that won't happen. I know that the sand will also settle. I see online that they have some kind of round disk shape under the rocks.I will take any advise that will help with this problem
Live rock and live sand?
Idealy you should of had some "live rock" in when you put sand down. But i know this could of hurt the "live" on the rock. so when we did ours we did some cast off rock and put the sand down so there was a "bed" in the bed of sand.
BUT if you didn't do this don't worry. If you have a "live sand bed" fish can't go that deep in there after the rock is on it. It becomes a lot like cement.
A real "live sand bed" is about 4 - 6 inches deep and unless you have 10 inch bleenies you shouldn't have an issue. =P
Make sure to Quarrentine that Rock!
Live rock and live sand?
As long as you put the rocks in slowly, the fish will automatically move out of the way. I have had to do this when removing some of my more aggressive fish and ended up removing all the rocks in order to catch them.
Live rock and live sand?
I have had fish tanks since 1969 and have never seen a fish "crushed by a rock".
Just use some common sense. Clear the sand away from the bottom where you are putting the rock. That way the rock is sitting flat on the bottom and will not shift or move when the fish dig.
If you were setting up a new aquarium, you could also silicone the rocks to the bottom of the tank. We have had to do this when keeping very large fish in an aquarium.
