for some people that's all they know is the things that people talk about in hip hop so when they say they live hip hop they mean the things that are talked about is what they go thru see or do in life like me i personally live music which means that in all music whether its hip hop rock or country they sing about things that i have experienced in my life.

Since the original hip hop movement got started as a progressive movement, to better the people of the inner cities of NY, and provide a better alternative to the crime in the area, id say that to live hip hop isnt just listening to music - its to live a positive lifestyle to better your brothers and sisters. During this time there was many civil rights movements, and prominant black figures were challenging the state in which their people were living in, I believe this also tells us that hip hop movement took over, or even picked up after the leaders had been assassinated. It's to stand up for your rights, help your brothers and sisters in need, and promote positivety. Education is one of the biggest issues.

So when i see this lifestyle that these people live in, gangsters, thugs, they have strayed from the original concept of hip hop, and have fallen into a regressive movement.

The way i breathe hip hop is to further educated myself, inform the ignorant, and overall help others who obviously cannot tell that they are becoming a problem. I listen to alternative hip hop mostly now, and this is because alternative hip hop is how hip hop's original concept was, and should still be today. But when i see a man selling poison to their brothers and sisters, and follow a thug lifestyle, i dont ignore them, i educate them whenever i could. Obviously I dont DJ, I dont breakdance, and dont do graffiti, or any caligraphy but I am a great artist. I dont rap, but I love poetry.

Lastly, African American culture and hip hop culture are not the same thing. Both can influence eachother and have some of the same characteristics, but definelty not the same thing.

p.s.: I think many people need to understand that the music influences the culture, but there is also a difference between "rap music" and "Hiphop music". Also when they say live hiphop, its not the music that they are living, as well as jazz, thats ridiculous! Hip Hop is a culturem and produces hip hop music. Im sure after studying culture one would understand that if one can live a culture of jazz, or punk, or rock, or sports, or whatever. Its only the point where you change this from a hobbie to a culture. People who live the punk, listen to punk music. Same goes for rock, where people live a different way, they live the rock lifetyle. Saying that a culture is better than another is ignorant. Please people..read before you say dumb stuff.
