What is it like to live in Seattle?

I would like to know what it is like to live in Seattle. I currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I'm considering a move to Seattle. I've been to the city and really like it but I don't know what it is like to live there. Some of the things I have questions about are:

1) Is housing or rent expensive in Seattle?

2) Are there a lot of jobs in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry in the Seattle area?

3) How is the quality of life in Seattle compared to San Francisco or Los Angeles (crime, schools, weather, ect)?

4) What is the dating scene like in Seattle for an Asian guy in their late 20's?

Any feedback from people who live or lived in Seattle would be great!!

What is it like to live in Seattle?

1) Very. If you wouldn't mind spending a couple of hours a day in traffic then you can live outside the city and find some reasonable prices.

2) Depends on your experience. I've got a BA in biology but I don't have lab experience. It's very competitive so the jobs don't pay well. Find a job before you come, it's took many people I know well over a year to find something here with Biology. Avoid staffing agencies, they suck at finding you work.

3) Crime is low in most areas, no problems there.

4) Be prepared to masturbate a lot.

It's always cloudy here, so you never get to see the sun. The people aren't very friendly. Politics are way to important to people here too, it's all they talk about.

What is it like to live in Seattle?

1) Yes, and hideously so. A coat closet would go for four figures per month in some neighborhoods.

2) As far as I know, yes. (I hope that isn't a euphemism for drug dealing.)

3) It's great--except for the commuter traffic, which is some of the worst in America. We have no smog, thanks to plenty of rain. The crime isn't so bad. Schools are O.K.

4) I have no idea. We have plenty of Asians, though, especially in the north end suburb of Shoreline, WA. Seattle also has the International District, with lots of Asian shops and restaurants.

Well I can tell you two things! Housing is really expensive in downtown Seattle and can be $1000 for a one bedroom apartment on the outskirts.

There are also a ton of homeless people in Seattle!

What is it like to live in Seattle?

1. It is expensive - but nothing like San Francisco. It would proabably seem cheap to you.

2. There are a lot of hospitals here, and the U of W always has a lot of research going on.

3. The crime is very low comapared to L.A. I am not sure about San Francisco, but it's nothig like Oakland or L.A. The schools are better than California. The weather can get depressing because it is overcast a lot of the time - but it is beautiful here in a typical summer.

4. There is a large Asian community in Seattle. Our population is about 20% Asian. I guess the dating scene depends on your game.

I love Seattle. I have lived here my whole life, I have been many places to visit - but this is my home. Good luck!

What is it like to live in Seattle?

1. Housing/rent has been on the rise, but in comparison to San Fran, it's not really a huge issue.

2. There are a decent number of jobs in Pharmaceuticals/Biotech, depending on your experience/what you're looking for.

3. Quality of life... I think it's as good or better. Air is clean, crime is less, I like clubs and bars in San Fran a bit more, shows were better, but Seattle will get major tours here. Weather is noticeably colder often. Summers are beautiful, winters are dismal and grey, but usually around 40's and occasional dips into 30's with snow that lasts a day or two. Schools are excellent, well depending on where you are, what levels of schools you are talking about... There's districts that aren't great and schools that aren't great, but they're not the majority.

4. Dating scene for Asians in their late 20's... If you like clubbing, it's cool. I'd say you'll really enjoy it.
